The debating society is not a new idea in the high schools of the United States, not by any stretch of the imagination. However the reputation and the way people are viewing them is starting to change. In the past it was seen as a place for the smart of even “geeky” kids to go and use their knowledge to outsmart less fortunate people. However now it has become a place where people can win no matter what side they are on as long as they have the right skills. More and more young people are becoming involved with Debating societies than ever before which is great to see and the more people that get involved the more everyone benefits from the system, which is why it is their in the first place.
Putting a Point Across
Debating is a superb way to learn how to communicate effectively because it teaches the participants to see both sides of every story, and if they can see them then they can fight against any opposition which helps greatly when trying to sway people who are unsure about the propositions being put forward. Being able to persuade other people is a very employable skill and can also be very useful for the individual which is why there is a lot of drive behind debating societies in school.
Being able to debate will also help to make the people far more confident within themselves which will help them a lot in later life in general but also in portraying themselves in a good light to the right people and everyone knows how important first impressions can be. The people who are the best in the debate society will be the ones who end up going out their and making something of themselves because they can make other people believe in what they are saying which is a talent some business people would kill for.
